One of Japan’s best known brands has landed in the USA – and revealed three top lures that will spearhead its assault on the world’s largest recreational fishing market.
Jackson – a leader in trout BFS and JDM, the Japanese style of surf fishing – is bringing these niche styles to the US.
The company, which has already set up a presence in the country with its own website, says that it was always the dream of its founder Keito Kato to set up a business in the US.
Jackson’s US versions of Trout BFS hardbaits are equipped with premium single barbless hooks which are required for most wild trout fields in the States. The company’s strategists believe that the style of fishing will be the next boom in the US.
JDM surf fishing has also been extremely popular in Japan for the last few decades and Jackson has been one of the most popular brands, particularly with anglers fishing its user-friendly hardbaits.
Jackson started life as a US bass tackle importer in 1975, developing its own range of lures in 1980. It is currently owned and operated by Keita Kato, son of the founder.
“Entering the US market has been a long-time dream of my father,” said Kato. “Our commitment is to provide joy and thrill anglers across the world. We have already launched a new website for the US and are looking for retailers to join us. Our plan is to become a key brand in niche markets in the region.
“No other Japanese brand is offering Trout BFS or JDM surf to the US markets. These lures have been used in Japan for over a decade and are expected to perform in the same way in North America.
Meteora
This legendary flat-sided minnow has become a staple among trout enthusiasts and is tipped to become a favourite among US anglers. The weight distribution has been carefully crafted to ensure stability even in the most powerful of currents. Jackson says that its refined design allows for a controlled action and smooth retrieves, delivering a successful fishing experience. “This advanced lure uses a tungsten weight to maintain a streamlined profile, providing optimal balance in freshwater environments.”
