How to Finesse Saltwater Rockfish

What’s your favorite type of fishing? Mine has to be for Rockfish! It might conjure up images of battling the hot summer sun, but here in Saga and Nagasaki, the temperatures have cooled down, making it a perfect time to get out on the water! I’m excited to share some highlights from my recent offshore fishing adventure and the methods I’ve found super effective for targeting these awesome fish.

Rock Tribe

First off, let me introduce my trusty tackle: the Rock Tribe C-808XH. This bad boy handles weights from 14g to 65g, and it’s got the perfect blend of agility and power, even in those swift waters and deep spots!

Get Moving!

As soon as you hit the fishing spot, cast out a swimming worm and cover a wide area! Your goal? Reel in the most active fish that are snacking on little guys! The magic trick is to pull in the worm a few times, let it drop to the bottom, and then do it all over again.

Bone Bait 4.5 inch

This is not just for flatfish; it works wonders for rockfish too!

Take it Slow!

When probing, do it carefully… think Operation persistently! Focus on those hungry individuals going after crabs and shrimp. Use Texas Rigs and free rigs to explore the snaggy spots where you lost a couple of lures during the swimming phase.

Puri Ebi

Oh, and let me tell you— on this trip, the response to the Puri Ebi was fantastic! Those little vibrations from its whiskers and legs felt so lifelike; it’s got to be the bait to use!

Conclusion

Rockfish are not only super fun to catch, but they’re also delicious to eat—definitely a top target! Just remember, they’re slow growers, so be kind and release the smaller ones. We’re in the second half of rockfish season now, and I can’t wait to hear all about your rockfish catches! Let’s keep the fishing fun going!
