Catching Yellowtail from Shore
The ocean remained tumultuous until the morning of my scheduled crossing to Kamigoto, which resulted in the cancellation of the ferry service. Fortunately, the conditions improved by the afternoon, allowing me to make my way to the island.
The following day, I ventured across the reef to an offshore rock suggested by Yonesuke-san. Prior to the storm, catches of Yellowtail in Kami Gotoh had been promising.
However, post-storm, there has been a decrease in the availability of Yellowtail. In their place, numerous micro baits began to surface, though fishing proved challenging. While king fish were elusive, Yellowtail exhibited significant activity.
The diving pencil known as the Prowler 190 demonstrated commendable effectiveness during the morning hours.
With a slim body weighing more than typical models, the Prowler maintains a remarkably stable flight posture. Its casting distance surpasses that of other diving pencils and poppers within the same size and shape category.
Designed for optimal water engagement with minimal error, this lure skillfully adapts to short pitch continuous dives.
As the sun ascends, larger plugs often lose their appeal, prompting us to switch to the Metal Effect Long Cast equipped with the Metal Effect Blade Hook Set. This lure, closer in size to the bait, can be retrieved rapidly over expansive areas, enticing yellow tail to follow and strike.
The Metal Effect Long Cast, true to its name, is a metal jig engineered for maximum casting distance, enabling access to previously unreachable fishing spots. Its slightly rear-balanced weight distribution and characteristic cross-section facilitate stable casting. The belly and back feature depressions that guide air during flight, minimizing instability and enhancing casting range.
These grooves also ensure that the jig maintains its position in the water during retrieval, reducing line complications. The flat sides allow light to penetrate from multiple angles, amplifying the lure’s flash and effectiveness in attracting fish. This lure encompasses the essential features required to target those distant spots that were once unattainable.
When paired with the specially designed blade hook set of the Metal Effect Blade and reeled in at high speed, the Long Cast's rearward center of gravity and its body dimples enable it to maintain stable straight-line control. The flashing blades present an enticing display to a broad spectrum of fish.
