How to select Trout BFS Lure
Choosing the right minnow for the field conditions is the first step to success.
Size:
For creeks and small rivers, 45mm and 50mm lures will target fish ranging from 6 to 16 inches. 40mm may be necessary for small streams, particularly in low water conditions.
When targeting fish over 20 inches, lures that are 60 to 75 mm in size are essential. A longer body allows the use of a larger hook to withstand the hard fight of large fish.
Color:
Trout are generally attracted to bright colors.
Using bright colors allows anglers to see better, leading to improved casting. Starting with bright colors until your vision and casting motion are comfortable is a smart approach. Jackson colors LMYK and SKY are known for their brightness and proven effectiveness.
Larger wild fish tend to respond better to natural colors, especially in situations where there is fishing pressure.
Metallic colors help fish locate your minnow from a distance due to their flashing effect, particularly in low-light conditions.
The color black has a significant advantage in attracting larger fish under specific conditions.
Type:
Starting with the Fast Sinking model is a good way to find a column where fish are concentrated. If you notice numerous fish chasing your minnow but not biting, try incorporating pauses into your twitches. If fish are interested in the fall, try changing color patterns.
If changing the color doesn't trigger a bite, try the Slow Sinking model.
Most upcross approaches are successfully completed with either Fast Sinking or Slow Sinking models.
A Floating model can be detrimental for the downcross approach.
